Coptic Museum
Founded in 1910 by Marcus Simaika Pasha in Coptic Cairo, the Coptic Museum safeguards the material memory of Egypt’s Christians, whose churches endured beside Roman forts, medieval mosques, and Ottoman rule. Its carved screens, icons, textiles, and manuscripts show how Pharaonic motifs, Hellenistic craft, and Byzantine devotion were reshaped into a distinct Coptic language, then adapted again through the Islamic centuries. Quiet courtyards and mashrabiyya -like façades make the building itself a lesson in continuity and resilience.
