Basse-Yutz Flagon
This bronze flagon from Basse-Yutz, France (c. 450 BC) is a masterpiece of early Celtic La Tène art. The dragon-headed handle gripping the rim, the chained lid, and swirls show how Celtic metalworkers blended their curving, animal-rich style with Greek and Etruscan influences. La Tène art—defined by fluid lines and intricate creatures—represents the height of Celtic craftsmanship. The flagon’s hybrid motifs reveal cultural exchange between Iron Age Europe and the Mediterranean.
