The Last JudgmentBuonamico Buffalmacco

831
The Last Judgment (Buonamico Buffalmacco) is one of the most powerful painted walls in Pisa’s Camposanto Monumentale, part of Buffalmacco’s vast fresco cycle The Last Judgment (1336–41), where resurrection, the weighing of souls, and the stark topography of Heaven and Hell turn doctrine into a vivid moral drama. Created for a cemetery cloister, it set burial within communal memory and spiritual warning, and its severe damage in 1944—followed by long restoration—has made it a fragile witness to loss and recovery.
