Nautical Quadrant

This replica (15th c.) shows a quadrant shaped as a quarter circle, with a scale from 0° to 90°. Used to measure the altitude of stars for latitude navigation, it did not rely on the visible horizon—an advantage for mariners at sea. It reflects the ingenuity of early European navigational science.
