Boat from the Recôncavo

This 17-meter vessel (c. 1900) once sailed the Bay of All Saints, serving towns of the Recôncavo, the fertile river-linked region surrounding Salvador. With lateen sails aft and a lug sail forward, it combined local shipbuilding practice with Asian-influenced rigging. Its hybrid form reflects Bahia’s role as a node between coastal Brazil, the wider Atlantic, and long-distance global trade routes.
