Colonial Passageway, Île de Gorée
This sandy lane on Gorée Island, flanked by faded colonial walls and vivid Creole-style shutters, evokes the island’s layered past under Portuguese, Dutch, French, and British rule (15th–19th cc.). While tranquil today, such alleys once witnessed the trafficking of enslaved Africans. Their restored charm now frames a space of reflection, resilience, and postcolonial identity.
