Fort d’Estrées
This 19th-c. coastal fortress, named after French admiral Jean II d’Estrées, was built to defend Gorée Island from maritime threats. Its thick stone walls and cannon ports reflect the military priorities of colonial powers. Today, the fort houses a museum, transforming a site of domination into one of education and historical reckoning.
