Romanesque Façade of San Michele in Foro
This ornate Romanesque façade, begun in the 11th c., crowns the Church of San Michele in Foro. St. Michael the Archangel, wings outstretched, towers above the layered colonnades of intricately carved columns. Once the site of the Roman forum, the piazza reflects Lucca’s continuous transformation from imperial center to medieval stronghold.
