Facade of San Michele in Foro
A masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, the façade of San Michele in Foro (11th–14th cc.) features a dazzling array of arcades and columns, each uniquely carved. At the summit, the Archangel Michael, flanked by trumpeting angels, dominates the skyline. This sculptural layering reflects Lucca’s wealth and artistic ambition in the Middle Ages.
