Grenoble and the Isère River

602
The Isère flows through Grenoble with the Belledonne Alps in the distance. At center rises the Collegiate Church of St-André (1228), built as the chapel of the Dauphins of Viennois. Along the quays stand 18th–19th c. façades, while the Bastille cable car lines overhead recall Grenoble’s 20th c. leap into alpine modernity, uniting past and progress.
