Deesis Mosaic with the Virgin and Christ

474
The Deesis mosaic exemplifies Byzantine art’s spiritual depth. Central is Christ Pantocrator, symbolizing divine authority. Flanking him, the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist intercede for humanity, their gestures embodying a theological dialogue. This mosaic reflects the Byzantine emphasis on intercession and the eternal relationship between the divine and the faithful, a cornerstone of Eastern Orthodox tradition.
