The Temple of Bel in Palmyra, Syria, was dedicated to the Semitic god Bel, moon god Aglibol, and sun god Yarhibol. Built between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, it showcased a blend of Greco-Roman and Eastern architectural styles. Destroyed by ISIS in August 2015, it represented a significant cultural heritage loss. Prior to its destruction, it drew over 150,000 visitors annually. Current efforts focus on virtual reconstruction using digital photography to preserve its historical significance.
