Temple of Bel in Palmyra
The Temple of Bel in Palmyra, Syria, was a key religious site dedicated to the god Bel and deities Aglibol and Yarhibol. Built between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, it combined Greco-Roman and Eastern architectural styles. Destroyed by ISIS in 2015, the temple once drew over 150,000 visitors annually. Its ruins now symbolize significant cultural heritage loss, with digital reconstruction efforts underway.
