Palmyra Castle Viewed Through Archway
Qala’at Ibn Maan, or Palmyra Castle, exemplifies 13th-century Mamluk architecture in Homs, Syria. Named after Druze emir Fakhr-al-Din II, it overlooks ancient Palmyra. Both were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. During the Syrian Civil War, the site was captured and recaptured by ISIS and Syrian forces, but the damage is reportedly repairable.
