Maitum Anthropomorphic Burial Jar
This earthenware jar (190 BC–500 AD) from Ayub Cave, Maitum, Sarangani Province, features human-like figures with expressive faces. Unique to the Philippines, it was used for secondary burials, containing remains and grave goods. Such jars reflect early Filipinos’ beliefs about the afterlife. Likely Jar 21, it measures 36.8 cm and is part of a collection showcasing varied male and female forms, highlighting cultural practices of the Metal Age.
