53
This earthenware jar (190 BC–500 AD) from Ayub Cave, Maitum, Sarangani Province, features human-like figures with expressive faces. Unique to the Philippines, it was used for secondary burials, containing remains and grave goods. Part of a collection with varied male and female forms, it reflects early Filipinos’ beliefs about the afterlife.
