Rooster Mosaic
This mosaic panel (5th–6th cc.) shows a striding rooster framed by a fan-shaped motif and geometric border. It forms part of the floor decoration of a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, whose pavements combine animals, human figures, and personifications of the seasons. The building suffered fire or earthquake damage in the 6th c., yet its mosaics still illustrate the richness of provincial Byzantine art.
