Byzantine Fisherman Mosaic
This mosaic (5th–6th c. AD) from Petra shows a fisherman holding his catch, symbolizing sustenance and perhaps echoing Christian themes of “fishers of men.” Made of vivid tesserae —small stone or glass cubes—it captures lifelike detail and color, reflecting both daily life and spiritual symbolism in Petra’s Byzantine community.
