North Nave Mosaics
These nave mosaics (5th–6th cc.) arrange animals, birds, and vessels inside oval frames against a pale ground. Small tesserae in muted tones build subtle shading and texture. Such imagery reflects Byzantine interest in both biblical symbolism and the beauty of the created world. The careful patterning shows how early Christian patrons used ornament to shape a meditative space.
