Dressing the Rider
This relief from the Parthenon’s north frieze (438–432 BC) shows a youth helping a rider adjust his tunic, a moment of preparation for the Panathenaic procession. The gesture reflects mentorship and civic discipline in Classical Athens, where young men trained as skilled horsemen. Such scenes celebrated Athenian unity and identity, expressing the city’s ideals through ritual and art.
