Attic Red-Figure Lekythos with Courtship Scene

This Attic red-figure lekythos (late 5th c. BC) shows a courtship scene between an erastés and an erómenos . A bearded man with a staff offers items to a modestly seated youth. Above them hang palestra items: a strigil , aryballos , and sponge, highlighting the educational and athletic context of such relationships. This iconography was common in Greek ceramics, often depicting homoerotic scenes typical of the classical world.
