These 13–15th-c. iron locks and keys reflect advances in security technologies in urban Livonia. Padlocks of various forms—cylindrical, rectangular, and even triangular—secured goods in homes and trade. Precision-cut keys were handmade by Riga’s locksmiths’ guilds.
