Clergy and Orders of Riga in Late Middle Ages
These costumes (14th–15th cc.) show religious roles in Riga, including monks, nuns, a fool, a Teutonic knight, and a bishop. The red vestments indicate episcopal authority, while the white cloak with a black cross identifies the knightly order. The jester’s outfit demonstrates the accepted role of satire in courtly and ecclesiastical life, reflecting the complex social dynamics of the period.
