Atlantic Sturgeon Remains from Medieval Riga
These bony scutes belonged to Atlantic sturgeons caught near Riga (12–13th cc.). This large migratory fish was prized for its meat and roe. The illustration shows the sturgeon’s distinctive armored body. Its presence highlights medieval Riga’s connection to the Daugava’s rich aquatic life.
