Nave and Baldachin of St Peter’sBernini
This view along St Peter’s vast nave leads to Bernini’s monumental baldachin (1624–33), towering over the papal altar beneath Michelangelo’s dome. The richly inlaid marble floor and gilded coffered ceiling reflect the synthesis of Renaissance symmetry and Baroque grandeur, expressing the Church’s universal authority and divine majesty.
