Triskelion
This black-and-white mosaic (early 2nd c.) from the Baths of the Provinces depicts the triskelion—three bent legs radiating from a central point—symbol of the island of Sicily. Associated with motion, unity, and divine protection, the emblem appears alongside personifications of other Roman provinces, celebrating their role in trade and culture. It evokes Sicily’s key position in the empire’s maritime network.
