Charioteer with Victory

This fresco (c. 140) in the Caseggiato degli Aurighi (House of the Charioteers) shows a victorious driver guiding a two-horse team while holding a palm branch and a wreath. These emblems marked triumph in Roman circus races, where elite aurighi gained fame through speed and daring. Displayed in this residential complex, the scene aligned its occupants with the prestige and competitive ethos of professional charioteers.
