Frankfurt CathedralKaiserdom St. Bartholomäus
Imperial Cathedral of St Bartholomew—Frankfurt’s Kaiserdom—is a Gothic church built largely in the 14th–15th cc on older foundations, its red-sandstone tower still anchoring the city’s historic skyline. More than a parish church, it became an imperial stage: Holy Roman Emperors were crowned here in 1562–1792, binding Frankfurt’s civic identity to the idea of a German realm. Fires, wartime ruin, and post-1945 rebuilding have made it a place where continuity is felt as much in recovery as in stone.
