Queen’s Bedchamber Canopy and Alcove
This ceremonial bed (c. 18th c.) anchored the Queen’s daily rituals at Versailles, from waking audiences to childbirth. Embroidered with floral silk and crowned in gilded wood, the ensemble fused privacy and performance. The bedchamber’s theatricality reinforced court hierarchy and the queen’s role as dynastic mother and symbol of elegance.
