Palace of the Kings of MajorcaPalais des Rois de Majorque

1757
Palace of the Kings of Majorca was built on a hill above Perpignan in 1276–1309 and was the mainland seat of a small kingdom that briefly ruled the Balearics and Roussillon (1276–1344). Its stern ramparts and keep assert sovereignty in a contested borderland, while inner courts and the chapel, lit by 14th c. stained glass and once bright with Mudéjar painted wood, reflect a court shaped by Mediterranean exchange. Later militarised, it remains the city’s clearest monument to that lost crown.
