Caen Castle

This fortress (c. 1060), built by William the Conqueror, served as a key stronghold in the Duchy of Normandy and later under royal control. Its thick walls and rounded towers typify early Norman military architecture. Despite centuries of damage, it remains a defining monument of Norman power and identity.
