Concarneau Walled Town
This fortified island quarter (14th–17th cc.), strengthened under Vauban, encloses a harbor with granite ramparts, clock tower, and former drawbridge. The thick walls once controlled access to one of Brittany’s major fishing ports and protected its fleets. Their calm reflection in the water now underlines how military engineering once framed everyday maritime life.
