St-Étienne Cathedral
This cathedral (13–16th cc.) dominates Auxerre with soaring Gothic forms above Romanesque foundations. Dedicated to St Stephen, it reflects the town’s medieval wealth and episcopal power. The sculpted west portals and tall tower guided pilgrims along the Yonne. Though never completed, its vast stained glass interior embodies the grandeur of Burgundian Gothic.
