Samurai with Naginata Painting
This painting depicts a samurai, a member of Japan’s warrior class, wielding a naginata, a polearm with a curved blade. The scene likely originates from feudal Japan, possibly during the Kotō period (900–1596), when such weapons were common. Samurai also carried the daisho , a pair of swords: the longer katana and the shorter wakizashi, symbolizing their status. The katana and wakizashi were central to their martial identity, along with the older tachi sword.
