Paracas Culture Trepanation
This Paracas culture skull (c. 800–100 BC) from Nazca, Peru, shows multiple trepanations by scraping, a surgical method for treating head injuries or relieving cranial pressure. The Paracas were adept at this procedure, often achieving high survival rates. Multiple trepanations indicate repeated medical intervention, demonstrating an advanced understanding of cranial anatomy.
