Masked Shaman Pendant
This gold pendant (700–1550) from the Diquís region depicts a shaman wearing a fierce animal mask, crowned with serpents and holding power symbols. Shamanic figures like this embodied supernatural abilities, using ritual and transformation to mediate between worlds. It appears on Costa Rica’s former 5000 colones bill.
