Velvet-Covered Chest with Iron Fittings
This velvet-covered wooden chest (17th–18th cc.) combines padded red panels with jagged iron bands and star-shaped lockplates. The reinforced corners and multiple locks indicate a secure container for textiles, valuables, or documents. Its costly fabric and elaborate metalwork demonstrate how European storage forms adapted to colonial elite households in Spanish America.
