Seated Colossus of Ramesses II

This granite seated colossus of Ramesses II (13th c. BC) stands at the entrance of Luxor Temple, with the king shown frontally on a throne. A smaller standing figure, probably Queen Nefertari or a royal daughter, appears beside his legs, while reliefs and inscriptions cover the base. The scale difference between ruler and companion, together with the temple setting, articulates New Kingdom concepts of royal hierarchy and divine kingship.
