Princess Beside the Feet of Ramses II
This granite group (13th c. BC) at Luxor Temple shows the colossal legs and feet of Ramses II with a much smaller standing daughter carved beside his right leg. Such family figures formed part of royal statues in Egypt’s 19th Dynasty. The extreme scale contrast articulates the pharaoh’s divine status while still granting the princess a permanent place in his monumental presence.
