Christ PantocratorDionisius
This Christ Pantocrator (Almighty) fresco (late 15th c.) fills the central dome, showing Christ frontally enthroned, blessing with one hand and holding the Gospel with the other. Angelic ranks encircle him in the dome’s curved space, forming a celestial court above the nave. Dionisius, a painter from Moscow, shapes the composition with his characteristic elongated figures, pale harmonies, presenting Christ as universal ruler and linking Orthodox tsarship to a refined, spiritual aesthetic.
