Built for Expo 98 and inaugurated in 1998, the interchange became a landmark of renewal on Lisbon’s eastern waterfront. Santiago Calatrava’s glass-and-steel canopy rises like a grove of skeletal trees, its branching supports recalling Gothic vaulting. The station connects suburban and long-distance rail services with the metro, linking everyday journeys to the wider transformation of former industrial land into the modern district of Parque das Nações.
