Oriente StationGare do Oriente
Oriente Station was built for Lisbon’s Expo 98 and inaugurated in 1998 as both an interchange and a statement of renewal on the city’s eastern waterfront. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, its glass-and-steel canopy rises like a skeletal grove, borrowing the lightness of Gothic vaulting while nodding to Portugal’s maritime imagination. For many Lisboetas it is a daily threshold between suburbs, metro lines, and long-distance routes; for the city it marks the moment Parque das Nações turned industrial ground into a modern civic district.
