Rhenish Bearded Man Jug

An example of the Bartmann jug (16–17th cc.), this stoneware vessel bears a stylized bearded face and signs of breakage. Such jugs, made in Cologne and Frechen, were used to store drink and became popular trade goods across northern Europe.
