Grotesque Ceiling Fresco

This fresco (late 15th c.) combines Renaissance grotesques with mythological motifs. Inspired by ancient Roman wall paintings rediscovered in Nero’s Domus Aurea, such ornamentation reflects humanist fascination with antiquity, blending natural forms, deities, and playful fantasy.
