Marionette Theater
Once housed in the grand Palazzo Borromeo on Isola Bella, this elaborate puppet theater (17th c.) was relocated to Isola Madre. Its fire-breathing devils, multiplying dolls, and mythic beasts reflect the Borromeo family’s fascination with illusion, spectacle, and aristocratic amusement. Performances often favored transformation over plot—sometimes literally incendiary.
