Basilica of Saint EpvreBasilique Saint-Epvre
Basilica of St Epvre rises over Nancy’s old town as a 19th c. statement of faith and regional identity, built in 1865–74 at the height of the neo-Gothic revival. Dedicated to St Epvre, a 6th c. bishop of Toul long venerated in Lorraine, it was financed by the Duke of Parma alongside local patrons, tying private devotion to civic pride. Its needle spire, stained glass, and dense sculpture deliberately echo the Middle Ages, casting modern Nancy in a lineage of enduring Catholic memory.
