Petroglyphs Museum

Petroglyphs Museum in Cholpon-Ata is an open-air field of granite and basalt boulders pecked with images from the 2nd–1st millennia BC through the 5th c. AD, when mobile communities crossed the Issyk-Kul basin. Ibex, hunters, stalking felines, and sun motifs turn the hillside into a durable record of subsistence and ceremony, where the hunt could also be a way of speaking to animal spirits and celestial powers. Framed by the Tian Shan foothills, it reads as a quiet remnant of ancient routes and worldviews.
