Max by the Ibex Hunt Scene
This petroglyph (8th c. BC–5th c. AD) from Cholpon-Ata shows a hunter and an ibex with large spiraling horns. Carved by nomadic peoples of the Central Asian steppe, it likely held ritual meaning linked to fertility and survival. The image affirms the ibex’s sacred role in early mountain cultures that viewed the hunt as both necessity and ceremony.
