St George's Orthodox Church
St George's Orthodox Church in Madaba is a late 19th-c. parish church built over a far older legacy: its nave preserves The Madaba Map , a 6th-c. mosaic floor that depicts the Holy Land with Greek labels, from Jerusalem to the Nile, as a visual itinerary for pilgrims. Found in 1884 and later conserved, the map is valued by local Christians and scholars alike for how it turns scripture into geography, and for the rare glimpse it gives of cities and roads before the medieval reshaping of the region.
