Huetar Standing Male Figure

This basalt figure (1000–1500) shows a standing nude male with large circular eyes, stylized hair, and hands placed on his thighs. Created by Huetar communities from the Guápiles region, it belongs to Costa Rica’s pre-Columbian sculptural tradition. The emphasis on the body and facial features suggests a role linked to fertility, social identity, or ceremonial authority.
