Greater Nicoya Vessel in the Shape of a Rabbit
This ceramic vessel (800–1350) forms a crouching rabbit with upright ears and painted bands of red, black, and cream. Produced in the Greater Nicoya region, it combines modeled volume with surface decoration to articulate the animal’s body. In local traditions, such animal-shaped containers likely served in ritual offerings, linking daily vessels to myth and cosmology.
